Peanut Butter, Miracle Whip & Cheddar

I was making lunch for the kids and I today, peanut butter and banana sandwiches, and I found myself wondering something.

Do people up north eat peanut butter and banana sandwiches or is that a southern thing? How bout banana and miracle whip sandwiches? Miracle whip on a grilled cheese? Cheese on a hot slice of apple pie? Grilled bologna? Sometimes I forget that what's "normal" in the North (spreading butter on a saltine cracker anyone? Lefse? Lutefisk?) and what's "normal" in the South is a lot like living on a different planet where they speak a foreign language, eh? You betcha!

On on unrelated note. I caught this picture of all 3 dogs laying in the same spot today, which is actually quite a miracle as they have just been tolerating each other at best. Look @ "puppy's" tail. his fur pattern looks like it has just been taken out of a braid! :-)

Little Black House Guest

The past few years Matt has been involved in a group of guys that puts together different hunts (they've done turkey and deer so far) for children with special needs (wheel chairs). It has been amazing to see how the community has gotten behind this group of guys with their support and donations so that these awesome kids can experience the thrill of the hunt and the agony the miss.

Next week, they're having a fundraiser auction for the hunts their hosting this year because it takes a lot of special equipment to get these kids out in the fields and equipped with the right gear so they can be successful. There was a Pheasant Lodge out in South Dakota that wanted to donate a hunting pup to the auction. So, Matt and 3 other men made a day trip out of it on Saturday and came home with this 11 wk old, male, pointing lab. The kids did not know he was coming so it was a fun surprise when Matt walked in with this puppy in his arms. As he set the pup down he said very emphatically "We are BABYSITTING this dog. This is NOT our dog to keep."  Both the kids seemed to understand as we have dog sat for a friend of mine in the past.

He does not have a name so Matt and I have just been calling him "puppy", but the kids decided to call him "perito" because according to Dora The Explorer, that's the Spanish word for puppy. :-) "Perito" is getting along very well with our 2 dogs, Hooch & Jak. Hooch doesn't seem to mind him in the least and kind of ignores him, but Jak is not very happy about our house guest at all, cautiously walking around him and snarling quite ferociously if "perito" gets to close or playful. "Puppy" barks quite a bit and is not housebroken, so we've had to clean up a few accident since his arrival, but he is doing a bit better today and will even walk out into the backyard on the leash without being drug the entire way. I told Matt that "puppy" will be housebroken and leash trained by the auction next week and then someone will buy him and he'll be an outside dog who never walks on a leash anyway. lol No, we will NOT be buying him. We have enough paws under our feet and food dishes to fill right now, thank you very much. Matt says he would like to have a water fowl dog as well as a pheasant dog too someday, if we ever get a place out in the country. But for now we're all enjoying getting to play with "puppy" and hope that he finds a really really good forever home after the auction. He's a great dog and it's a really great cause.
