I was making lunch for the kids and I today, peanut butter and banana sandwiches, and I found myself wondering something.
Do people up north eat peanut butter and banana sandwiches or is that a southern thing? How bout banana and miracle whip sandwiches? Miracle whip on a grilled cheese? Cheese on a hot slice of apple pie? Grilled bologna? Sometimes I forget that what's "normal" in the North (spreading butter on a saltine cracker anyone? Lefse? Lutefisk?) and what's "normal" in the South is a lot like living on a different planet where they speak a foreign language, eh? You betcha!
On on unrelated note. I caught this picture of all 3 dogs laying in the same spot today, which is actually quite a miracle as they have just been tolerating each other at best. Look @ "puppy's" tail. his fur pattern looks like it has just been taken out of a braid! :-)
Unfortunately people do, indeed eat a slice of cheese on pie up north. They are crazy, but you know, crazy is universal.
ReplyDeleteBob's darling sassy Grandma Gigi put grape jelly on her grilled cheese and he will, too. Yuck. It is sort of like a Monte Cristo if you've ever had the bad fortune of eating that ill-conceived sandwich.
I will admit to eating lutefisk, but not because I like it, but because my Grandpa did, and the smell (not the taste) reminds me of him. Too bad there's just no lutefisk candle we could burn at Christmas...
Grape jelly and grilled cheese huh? Interesting. I guess people drink wine and eat cheese together right? lol Maybe it's the same concept, just on more of a low budget scale. :)I thought a monte cristo was a grilled meat and cheese type sandwich. Am I thinking of something else? Monte Cristo....the count of? That makes me want to see the movie...and add the book to my kindle wish list! I've never smelled lutefisk and if it's reputation is true I don't think I care to either, but I can totally understand the sentimental connection. Seeing a Dr. Pepper can does the same thing with me and my Pappaw.
